Viral infection, such as a cold or the flu, is the most common throat infection, which is accompanied by symptoms like a mild fever, cough, runny nose, and body aches.
Another one is a bacterial infection, most well-known is strep throat, caused by Streptococcus bacteria. Symptoms include severe sore throat, pain while swallowing, swollen tonsils (sometimes with white patches), high fever, and swollen lymph nodes.
A less common type is a fungal infection, which affects people with weak immunity or after long-term antibiotic use. Symptoms include white patches in the throat, soreness, and difficulty swallowing.

In Ayurveda, a throat infection is seen as an imbalance in the Kapha dosha. It says, when Kapha increases, it leads to excess mucus, congestion, and that heavy feeling in the throat. If at the same time your Agni (digestive fire) is low, your body cannot burn off toxins properly. These toxins, called ama, weaken your system further. Top Ayurvedic Remedies For Throat Infections
The remedies that Ayurveda suggests work on balancing Kapha dosha, strengthening digestion, and flushing out toxins so that the body’s inner balance is restored. This will not only help you find relief from the infection, but will also prevent it from recurring too soon.
1. Mulethi
Mulethi, also known as “Sweetwood,” is a traditional ayurvedic herb used for centuries to treat a sore throat. Ginger is another effective remedy for throat infections. It is loaded with therapeutic properties that combat the bacteria and viruses that cause the infection while also soothing the discomfort and swelling in your throat.
You can use it in a couple of ways. Chew a small piece of fresh ginger, let the juice coat your throat, and swallow it; don’t spit it out. Another way is to make ginger tea, just boil a few slices in water for 5–7 minutes and sip it warm. Add a little honey to it, and it’s even more soothing.
4. Saltwater with Turmeric Gargle
A warm saltwater gargle with a pinch of turmeric is the simplest way to treat throat infections. Salt helps get rid of extra mucus and swelling. Turmeric fights the germs that causes infection and also calms irritation. Take a cup of warm water, add ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon turmeric, stir, and gargle for 20–30 seconds. Repeat 2–3 times a day. Do this 2–3 times a day, and you will see that your throat feels lighter, and the pain will be reduced. It’s easy, cheap, and really works without any medicines.
